Back in win column for NRHEG
NRHEG got back into the win column with an easy victory over Le Sueur-Henderson 35-16 during a Homecoming match-up in New Richland Sept. 27.
The Panthers scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to take a 28-8 lead at halftime.
In the first quarter, Blake Ihrke piled in to score a touchdown on a 1-yard run and Ben Schoenrock kicked the extra point to give NRHEG a 7-0 lead. Near the end of the quarter, Ihrke tossed a 5-yard pass to Lonnie Wilson for another touchdown. Schoenrock kicked another extra point.
Le Sueur-Henderson got on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a touchdown and 2-point conversion to cut NRHEG’s lead to 14-8. But the Panthers didn’t sit back and let Le Sueur get any closer as they racked up two more touchdowns before half to take a 28-8 lead.
Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter before the Panthers struck again in the final quarter. Lonnie Wilson intercepted a Le Sueur pass for a touchdown to give NRHEG a 35-8 lead. Le Sueur added a final touchdown a few minutes later.
Ihrke led the Panthers’ passing attack by connecting on 12 of 22 attempts for 159 yards.
Two Panthers split the honors for top rushing yards as Kordell Schlaak and Bick Staloch each had 66 yards.
In receiving, Lonnie Wilson piled up `113 yards in the game.
The victory improved NRHEG’s record to 2-3. The Panthers travel to Mapleton Friday night to take on Maple River (3-2).
