Blossoms set 32 PRs at Stewartville
Blooming Prairie traveled to Stewartville on Tuesday, April 16 for the Glenn Amundsen Invitational.
Stewartville was victorious in boys’ and girls’ competition with scores of 58 and 47. Byron (47) and Triton (30.5) rounded out the top three boys teams while Grand Meadow/ LeRoy-Ostrander/KIngsland/South (41) and Byron (38) did so for the girls.
BP’s boys placed sixth with seven points, but set 15 personal records. The Blossoms’ girls finished seventh and had PRs.
“The key moving forward is to stay healthy and find the right line up that is going to maximize our numbers,” BP head coach Chelsea Van Roekel said. “We want to give each athlete and our all-around team the best chance to succeed.”
The Blossoms did not have individual winners, but showed a lot of improvement. Van Roekel said Mitchell Fiebiger and Gabe Hagen are important veterans in the sprints, but are supported by a very talented and integral group of eighth and ninth graders.
Fiebiger placed fourth in the 100-meter and 200 with times of 12.29 seconds and 24.99, respectively. He was also fifth in the pole vault with a eight-foot jump.
Hagen continues to perform well in the throwing events. He was third in the shot put and seventh in the discus with throws of 43-10 and 111-08. Other top boys finishers for the boys team were Isaac Ille, who was third in the 1,600 with time of 1:12.52 and Xavier Rennie, who was fourth in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 18.19 and 46.85.
“Isaac Ille had a personal best in the 800 in the last meet and continues to perform well for the middle distance events,” said Van Roekel. “Xavier Rennie is a consistent point scorer in the hurdles.”
Gemini Johnson had the Awesome Blossoms’ highest finish. She was second in the pole vault and the long jump with leaps of 8-06 and 14-11.5.
“She’s been doing well in the pole vault and long jump,” Van Roekel said. “She is a talented, versatile athlete who consistently does well in the field events for the girl’s team.”
Van Roekel said BP eight- grader Sierra Larson has shown promise in the sprints. She was fifth in the 200 with a time a 29.23. Other top girls finishers were Micalyn Trihus, Anna Kittelson and Asha Lighthizer. Trihus was sixth in the shot put and discus with tosses of 29-06.5 and 81-08. Kittelson was sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:13.15 and Lighthizer was third in the 3,200.
