BP coach earns his 300th win

Blooming Prairie girls basketball coach John Bruns earned his 300th win as a head coach last week in a game against Lyle-Pacelli.
Immediately after the final buzzer in Blooming Prairie’s 60-43 win, his players swarmed him and celebrated the accomplishment.
“It was fun, but you know, the biggest thing was that we got the win. The girls had a few things planned and had made some signs. It was nice getting pictures taken and just kind of enjoying that moment with the girls. I’ve had a lot of awesome kids, fantastic assistant coaches, and an unbelievably supportive family over all of these years to reach this milestone,” said Bruns.
Bruns said what mattered most to him was his team and making sure that they are always in the best position to win and make memories of their own.
“At the end of the day, it’s about going out, playing hard and just enjoying the game. You want to win every game, but I think that more than anything you want to make sure that everybody has a good experience. In 23 years, I haven’t had anybody go on to make any money playing the game, but I do hope everyone that’s been on one of my teams have made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Bruns said the reaching a certain number of wins has never been one of his goals. “It’s more about the kids. Building future leaders and allowing kids to grow has always been the goal.”
Bruns and the Awesome Blossoms’ next game will be on the road against Randolph on Thursday, Jan. 13.
