BP paints pink with cancer activities

Blooming Prairie, MN, pink, paint the town

The small town of Blooming Prairie is taking on a beautiful pink cast to it in preview of more things to come.

Many businesses and residences have changed their colors for this special time. A Decorate Your House Pink contest was initiated this year.

The annual Blooming Prairie cancer auctions are scheduled for Friday and Saturday under the tent next to the Cue Company.

Blooming Prairie is raising funds for the BP Cancer Group’s part in fighting to find a cure for cancer. Cancer prevention is also at the top of the Cancer Group’s list.

Since Aug. 29, 250 pink flags have been flying over the vacant lot near the intersection of Highway 218 and Main Street. The flags are in memory of those who have passed from cancer and in honor of those who are cancer survivors.

A new wrinkle in all of the cancer benefit activities has been added this year. On Thursday, the fourth annual Gun Bingo will take place under the big tent. In the past, it has been the week following the auctions under the tent.

Bingo games start at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Ten games will be played. Limited tickets are available. Contact Connie Trom at 507-456-8431 or e-mail tromda@yahoo.com.

All proceeds go to the BP Cancer Group. Anyone can sponsor a gun in honor or memory of a loved one.

There will be a live auction at 7 p.m. on Friday under the tent.

On Saturday, Family Bingo is planned for 4:30 p.m. under the tent. Special prizes will be given. Another live auction will take place at 7 p.m.

Other activities include a cancer raffle. Raffle tickets in memory of Steve Prihoda are currently on sale to benefit the BP Cancer Group. Cash prizes from the Steve Prihoda raffle are: $1,000 first place; $300 second place and $200 third place. The drawing will be held Saturday.
