BREAKING NEWS: OWATONNA MAN CRITICALLY HURT IN HWY. 14 CRASH

An elderly man from Steele County is fighting for his life after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle on Highway 14 in Olmsted County Saturday morning.
Jerald Edward Fix, 79, of Owatonna was flown by Mayo One to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.
Fix was operating a Chevy Equinox that collided with a GMC Acadia around 9:56 a.m. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Highway 14 at County Road 5 in Byron.
The other vehicle was driven by Kari Jean Peters, 44, of Mankato. She was transported by ground ambulance with non life-threatening injuries to St. Marys.
The patrol said both drivers were wearing their seat belts and no alcohol was involved.
 
Dodge County Crash
In another crash on Highway 14 at 200th Avenue in Dodge Center Saturday night, a Claremont teenager was injured. The patrol said Diego Pena was driving a Ford Fusion westbound on Highway 14 when it left the roadway and crashed in the ditch around 6:40 p.m.
Pena was transported to St. Marys with non life-threatening injuries.
The patrol said it’s unknown if Pena was wearing a seat belt and no alcohol was involved.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Dodge Center Fire assisted the patrol at the crash.
 
Steele County Crash
In yet a third crash on Highway 14 in Steele County, two drivers were injured when they collided during the severe rain around 7:21 p.m. in Meriden Township.
Randall Lynn Carlsen, 69, of Elysian and Mary Kok, 53, of Mankato were transported to Owatonna hospital with non life-threatening injuries, the patrol said.
Kok was operating a Jeep Cherokee westbound on Highway 14 when she stopped and pulled over on the right shoulder because of the rain. Carlsen came along in a Buick LaCrosse and collided with Kok’s stopped vehicle.
