Dean Turner, 80, New Jersey, obituary

Dean R. Turner, 80, of Lake Hiawatha, N.J. died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022.

Dean was born in Blooming Prairie on Sept. 2, 1942, to Eva and Warden Turner. He married Anna Takacs on Nov. 11,1963. They had three children, Ann (Cookie), Lee and Ladd.

Dean worked at Swepco Tube Corporation in Clifton, N.J. for over 30 years. Dean was an avid golfer and in his younger days he was well known around Blooming Prairie for his passion and skills on the basketball court. In January 2013, Dean, along with six of the other Turner "boys" were inducted into the Blooming Prairie Blossoms Forever Athletic Hall of Fame. Dean was fortunate enough to be there to share the experience with his brothers Norm, Larry (Shorty), twin brother Dennis, and Jim. Two of his brothers had passed prior: Lyle (Ike) and Ronald (Laddie). Dean was passionate about his family and his faith. His happiest moments were spending time with his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, his German Shepard Zelda and most of all his wife Anna. He was a faithful member of St Peter's Church in Parsippany, N.J. He was a huge fan of men's basketball, especially St Anthony's High School in Jersey City. If St Anthony's High School was playing, Dean was in the stands. When he wasn't at a St Anthony's game, he was seated in the bleachers at the men's games of either Caldwell or Bloomfield College. Dean is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna, and children Ann (Attila) Toke, Lee (Kim) Turner and Ladd Turner; grandchildren, Attila , Anna, Lee, Emma, Christian, Johnny, Stephen, Julianne, Noelle, Lucy and Mary; and siblings Larry (Sonja) Turner, twin brother Dennis Turner, Robert Turner and James (Teresa) Turner. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lyle (Betty) Turner, Norman (Hilda) Turner and Ronald aka Laddie Turner; four sisters, Delores (Alden) Sletvold, Joanne (Maynard) Sathre, Yvonne Rogers and infant sister, Ramona Turner. Dean will always be remembered by his loved ones as a man who loved golf and more than anything else, his family. He never minded a good card game either. When Dean came around you needed to be ready for lots of laughs and most of all a great big bear hug.
