Ex-Husky Davison consistent for UWS

Jamie Davison remembers the Owatonna High School girls hockey coaches speaking about the importance of consistent play. The fourth-year player on the University of Wisconsin-Superior women's ice hockey team took those words to heart.Midway through her senior season, the captain is a four-year starter who has played in all but one game since her freshman year."I'm so proud to be able to play consistently," she said. "I try and show up every game and play up to my ability.""I've exceeded my expectations. This is kind of a best-case scenario," she said. "I've been so blessed. It's more than I could have ever expected."She missed one game her first season, when she finished with one goal and two assists. One of two defenders in the scheme this season, the left-hander plays on the right side after playing last year on the left side with a teammate on the right. She was the lone defender in the scheme her first two years."I definitely prefer having someone I can rely on," she said. "I do love everyone I've played with."The team has endured a string of canceled games -- seven heading into its Feb. 1 game. But through 12 games, she has one goal and four assists."Her character is outstanding," Wisconsin-Superior head coach Dan Laughlin said. "She shows the team the commitment that's needed, the hard work that's needed.""She's very consistent at her position. She doesn't do anything extremely flashy," he said. "She's got good hands. She's increased her skill set and her hockey IQ."Davison said she has improved a lot on the mental side of the game. "My quickness, overall making decisions, seeing the puck well and seeing the ice," she said, noting that her footwork has gotten better as well. She graduates in May and has one year of eligibility remaining from the COVID year. However, she said she plans to attend chiropractic school, which is four years."Every year she's gotten better and better," Laughlin said. "She's at her peak."
