Fatal crash reported in Steele County

Minnesota State Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 218 that occurred Friday morning, just north of Blooming Prairie.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident occurred just after 6:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. Two vehicles were involved in the crash. At this time, the Minnesota State Patrol is reporting that there has been a fatality.

The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the people killed in Friday morning's crash as Karl Erickson, 43, of Austin, and his son Elijah, age 9. Karl Erickson was the driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident.

The Minnesota State Patrol has identified one person involved in Friday morning’s fatal accident on U.S. Highway 218.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a passenger car was southbound on 218. This vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with another vehicle, driven by Paul Ingvaldson, 79, of Blooming Prairie. Ingvaldson was headed northbound on 218 at the time of the crash. Ingvaldson sustained injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital. 
The Minnesota State Patrol's website reports that the driver of the other vehicle, and a passenger in the other vehicle, are both deceased. One name was originally listed on the website, but has since been removed. The second individual’s name has not been released. The website now indicates that both names will be released on Friday evening. 
The Steele County Sheriff's Office and Blooming Prairie Police Department assisted at the scene.
