Free water!

Lead Summary

That sign hung for three days in a little white tent in Blooming Prairie’s park. I wonder if you saw it. Recently we had the joy of celebrating not only the 241st  birthday of our nation, but also the 150th birthday of the town of Blooming Prairie.
In the spirit of those celebrations, and with good will to our neighbors our church provided a refreshment tent with picnic tables where people could rest from the heat, chat with one another, or enjoy the food they had purchased in the park. By far the most popular aspects of this activity was the free water and free pop-ice we distributed.
Most were thankful. Many were baffled. What’s the catch? Are you asking for donations? No catch or money needed, our simple reply, “This is just something we wanted to do to bless the town in which we are located.”
To me the most interesting aspect of the day was the many who walked across the park to purchase a bottle of water for $2.00. Some didn’t know it our gift was available. Some perhaps suspected a catch, or that we might try to pressure them into something. Such was never our intent, but each has the right to choose. Some perhaps didn’t feel their need until they had walked away. Perhaps these felt a free bottle of water, or frozen treat were not worth the trip back.
Saddest of all, some may have just been too late. We were only able to staff the tent until shortly after the parade started. We have cases left over that were not used for the intended purpose. I hope those who put off accepting the free bottle of water did not miss it too greatly when the opportunity was passed; however, in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter.
God also has a free water offer available. God’s offers, however, is infinitely more consequential! In Chapter 4 of the Gospel of John. Jesus compares Himself to living water. Like our’s His offer is freely given. One only need receive it by grace through faith. (Romans 6:23) Sadly many yet do not know of this magnanamous gift. Christians, that is our fault and shame.
Others however do know; and yet for what ever reason wether, fear, indifference, unbelief or some other perceived hinderance  they reject the free water of life. I pray each will reconsider their position before God’s offer to them has expired.  2 Corinthians 6:2 For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. Have you been to the cross and received your free water?
