Huskies softball crushes opponents, remains perfect

The Huskies softball team took home two big conference wins last week by beating both Austin and Rochester John Marshall by scores of 10-0.
Owatonna took down the Rockets 10-0 last Wednesday after unideal weather forecasts forced the two teams to move the game up a day.
“JM threatened in the first as they had the bases loaded with one out in the first inning, but our defense stepped up and made some plays to keep them off the board,” said Owatonna Coach Jeremy Moran. “It was another strong pitching performance in the circle for Kennedy Hodgeman. She attacked their hitters and did a really good job locating her pitches and not giving them anything really good to hit. Behind her, the defense was outstanding again.”
Moran’s squad has enjoyed a flawless 4-0 start to the season, largely in part to how the team’s pitching and defense has shut down opponents.
“We gave up one run in the first inning of our very first game of the season and since then we have managed to shut out our opponents for 21 straight innings. Our pitching and our defense have been outstanding to start the season.”
Owatonna put an end to the game early, stopping the game after six innings when the Huskies reached the 10-run threshold to enforce the mercy rule.
The Huskies managed to score two runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth en route to the 10-0 final score.
Both Mehsa Krause and Parris Hovden led the team with two RBIs apiece, while Kennedy Hodgeman got it done for the Huskies on the mound with seven strikeouts and zero runs allowed.
Earlier in the week, Owatonna put up another 10-0 win, this time over Austin.
The Huskies wasted no time against Austin, finishing the game after four and a half innings of play by scoring four runs in the first inning, three in the second and three in the fourth.
“It was good to see our bats come out strong to start the game tonight. We had several hard-hit balls in the first inning and that really set the tone for us offensively. Our pitching and defense were strong again for us tonight, leading to our second straight shutout.”
Izzy Radel led the team in RBIs with two, however, six other Huskies – including Zoie Roush, Samantha Bogen, Hovden, Hodgeman, Glynn and Krause – recorded an RBI in the win.
On the mound, it was the tandem of Katelyn Bentz and Hovden who got the job done by combining for five scoreless innings.
Up next for Owatonna is a road matchup against Red Wing on Thursday at 5 p.m.
