Huskies whoop Scarlets 81-53

The Owatonna Huskies boys basketball team put an 81-53 beating on Mankato West at home last Thursday.
Owatonna’s win moves the Huskies to a perfect 20-0 record in the Big Nine Conference and a stellar 22-2 overall record on the season.
The Huskies controlled the flow of the game from the opening tipoff and continued their path of dominance with a relentless offensive attack.
Owatonna cruised to a 39-23 lead after the first half after shooting 50% from the field and 55.6% from three-point range.
A key part of Owatonna’s offensive production came from its ability to move the ball.
The Huskies totaled 22 assists in the game compared to Mankato West’s two assists, highlighting Owatonna's ability to pass the ball and create plays.
After halftime, Owatonna came out and controlled the game again by outscoring Mankato West 42-30 to close out the 28-point win.
Owatonna’s 56.3% shooting from the field in the second half was too much for the Scarlets who shot just 40% to close the game.
Leading the Huskies on offense was senior forward Evan Dushek with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Brayden Williams added 16 points and junior Blake Burmeister added 11.
Earlier in the week, Owatonna collected a 63-36 win over Rochester John Marshall on the road.
Owatonna benefited from steady offensive output and a plethora of possessions as the Huskies won the turnover battle against the Rockets only giving up four turnovers to John Marshall’s 17.
In the first half, Owatonna outscored John Marshall 29-14 behind 44% shooting from the field.
Leading by 15 points after the half, Owatonna returned to the court and outscored John Marshall 34-22 to bring home the 27-point win.
Dushek led the team again with 18 points while senior guard Ty Creger dropped 10 points as well.
Owatonna will look to close out the 2021-2022 regular season with its perfect conference record intact with two more games against Mankato East and Red Wing.
The Huskies will travel to Mankato East first on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. before finishing the season at home against Red Wing on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.
