Carol DeReus, 72, Owatonna

Carol A. DeReus, 72, of Owatonna, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul.

Carol Ann DeReus was born Aug. 30, 1950, in Owatonna, the daughter of Thomas and Ethel (Borchert) Cartin. She was raised on the family farm near Newry and attended Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1968.

Carol married Thomas DeReus on Oct. 1, 1978, at First Baptist Church, Owatonna. She was employed with OTC. The couple had two sons, Matthew and Mark. They moved to Lawrence, Kansas and lived there from 1985 until 1990. They moved back to Owatonna, and at that time Carol began working with Federated Insurance Company. The couple divorced in 1995. Carol retired from Federated in 2016.

Carol enjoyed visiting her family in Walker, Minn., and was very fond of her niece Jean’s sons. She also enjoyed shopping with her late friend Sandy Rickerl.

Carol is survived by a son, Matthew DeReus (Ashley Gertonson) of Brooklyn Center; and a sister, Mary (Orin) Jensen of Walker.

Carol was preceded in death by her son Mark, parents, and brothers Thomas and Jerry.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
