What a difference a mattress makes!

We just received a mattress in a box.

It’s on our bed already and we heartily endorse it. Judy and I thought it was a crazy idea to buy a mattress in a box, but we were wrong.

The mattress was vacuum packed, and once it was removed from its packing, it became the real size.

I think everyone loves to sleep. I sure do. After I broke my back, I had to finagle a way to get into bed and out of bed.

Our good friend Linda in Lakeville loaned us a side rail that her husband used. It is awesome. Hold onto the rail and scoot into bed. It’s as simple as that.

Judy and I have fallen out of bed (at separate times). Once, I found myself between a dresser and the bed. I was unhurt that time.

They say a person sleeps away a lot of their life.

Look at these sleep statistics gleaned from Sleep Facts on the internet:

  1. 35% of U.S. adults get less than the recommended seven hours of sleep each night.
  2. Humans are the only mammals that delay sleep.
  3. People are said to sleep one-third of their lives; thus, a good mattress is essential.
  4. The average person falls asleep in seven minutes.
  5. If it takes you less than five minutes to fall asleep, it’s likely that you’re sleep deprived.
  6. 25% of Americans report insufficient sleep at least 15 out of every 30 days.
  7. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder.
  8. 37 million Americans snore regularly.
  9. Women sleep more than men.  The reason for this is women are more likely to multitask, meaning their brains work harder and therefore take longer to recover. Despite this, it’s worth mentioning that women are significantly more likely to suffer with insomnia.
  10. Two thirds of U.S. high school students get less than 8 hours of sleep on school nights.

Sleep powers the mind, restores the body, and fortifies virtually every system in the body. But how much sleep do we really need in order to get these benefits? National Sleep Foundation guidelines advise that healthy adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night.

I’m really tired. Good night!
