Kittelson named Mr. Football top-10 finalist

Lead Summary

Blooming Prairie senior quarterback Drew Kittelson was named a top-10 finalist for the Minnesota Mr. Football award last week.
The award, given out by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) and the Minnesota Vikings to the state’s best football athlete, will be given out at the Mr. Football Banquet at the Doubletree by Hilton Minneapolis Park Place Hotel at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5.
Kittelson earned his nomination and selection amongst the finalists for his performance as a senior, leading the Awesome Blossoms to the section AA championship game against Maple River.
Kittelson and the Awesome Blossoms were a perfect 10-0 and The Associated Press’s No. 1 ranked Class AA team in the state of Minnesota before losing 40-18 against Maple River on Nov. 5.
Kittelson’s performance as a senior played a big part in Blooming Prairie’s success. Kittelson finished the year with 2,195 yards in the air and 34 passing touchdowns, along with 350 yards rushing and nine rushing touchdowns.
Steele County’s most recent Mr. Football winner came in 2018 when Owatonna running back Jason Williamson earned the award after a senior season that saw Owatonna win the Class AAAAA state title.
The Mr. Football award is going into its 17th year of existence as the MFCA began the award in 2004 when East Grand Forks athlete Nick Mertens won the award.
Kittelson will have one more performance at the Minnesota All-Star Football game on Saturday, Dec. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium before the award's winner is announced.
He will be representing the South team alongside fellow Steele County athlete Grant Achterkirch of Owatonna in the All-Star game.
