LaVon Hernandez, 80, Blooming Prairie
LaVon C. Hernandez, age 80, of Blooming Prairie, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at Heather Haus Assisted Living in Blooming Prairie.
LaVon Carroll Filley was born Dec. 24, 1941, at a maternity home in Blooming Prairie, to Raymond “Bob” and Mabel (DeRaad) Filley. She grew up in Blooming Prairie and graduated in 1959 from Blooming Prairie High School.
In January of 1961, she married Dale Madsen in Blooming Prairie. The couple was together for 20 years and had two sons.
LaVon worked at First National Bank in Blooming Prairie for 20 years. She also held positions with the Steele County Law Enforcement as a dispatcher and was a bookkeeper for Ille Inc.
In June of 1985, LaVon was united in marriage to Jesus ‘Jesse’ Hernandez at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, where she was a longtime member. In 1998, LaVon started Prairie Blossom Tours, where she managed all parts of the business except “entertainer,” which was Jesse’s role. She provided wonderful trips to the people of Blooming Prairie and surrounding communities for many years. LaVon was a big Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Laughlin. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
LaVon is survived by her son, Mike (Kathy) Madsen of Decorah, Iowa; Jesse’s children, Bryan (Cheryl) Hernandez of Blooming Prairie, Brenda Hernandez of Austin, and Lorrie (David Morgan) Hernandez of London; nine grandchildren, Jacinta, Jesse, Bryan, Cory, Kyle, Aryanna, Stephanie, Matthew and Melissa; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Arlys) Filley of Waltham; and brother-in-law, Dick Kruckeberg of Blooming Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mabel Filley; husband, Jesse in 2016; son, Brian Madsen in 2022; and sister, Lorraine Kruckeberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie Cemetery.
