Margaret Meger, 90, Belle Plaine
Margaret “Maggie” Meger, Belle Plaine, died May 16, 2022, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church on Friday, May 20, with a parish rosary being recited at 4 p.m., and continue one hour prior to the funeral liturgy on Saturday. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Belle Plaine.
Maggie was born Feb. 3, 1932 in Faxon Township, rural Sibley County, to Bernard Ninneth and Nora Frances (Donlon) McPartlan. She attended country school by Kerry Lake and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1950.
Margaret married Andrew F. Meger on Aug. 18, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Maggie was a stay-at-home mom for the first ten years of her marriage. She returned to work as a cook at Ann’s Café. She was also employed at the milk plant, the Belle Plaine Bakery and Valley Processor as a lab technician. She worked at Rainbow Discovery Center, where many of the children loved her so much, they called her, “Grandma Maggie.” After this, Margaret went to work at Hope Residence as a residential counselor, retiring after 25 years of service in 2007.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and served as chairman of the annual Poppy Drive for over 20 years. She was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Belle Plaine in 2007. She lived for and enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Belle Plaine every year, making countless roaster pans of her famous Irish Stew for many to enjoy. Her Irish heritage meant a lot to her and she often sang “Danny O’Donnell” Irish music.
Maggie was a lifelong, faithful member of Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church. She truly loved others and spent many hours visiting members of the church and bringing communion to home bound parishioners.
Maggie is survived by her 10 children: Sheila Zimmerman, Le Sueur; Ken Meger, New Prague; Dan (Anne) Meger, Lincolnton, N.C.; Wayne Meger, Chaska; Shirley Meger, Halfway, Ore.; Don (Pam) Meger, Belle Plaine; Glen (Cheryl) Meger, Owatonna; Tom Meger, Belle Plaine; Sharon (Dave) Ernst, Shakopee; Shelly (Adam) Juaire, San Antonio, Fla.; 29 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by one brother, Tom McPartlan, Buffalo, N.Y. and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by brothers Joe, Phillip, John, and sisters Mary Ellen Terrio, Jane McPartlan, and Betsy Kroells.
