NEWS BULLETIN: No new surprises as filings close

Steele County, elections, sheriff, senator, representative, Thiele, Jasinski

 

There are no new surprises as the filing deadline for this fall’s election came to close Tuesday afternoon.

The Steele County Board of Commissioners appears as it will continue to look the same as the four incumbents, Rick Gnemi, Jim Abbe, James Brady and John Glynn, will be running unopposed for their seats.

The race for Steele County Sheriff will consist of current Sheriff Lon Thiele and deputy Darin Helget. Both had filed on the first day of filings May 18.

Steele County Attorney Daniel McIntosh will be running unopposed.

Scott Tuchtenhagen of Owatonna is the only name on the ballot for Steele County Surveyor.

Mark Ditlevson of Owatonna will run for Soil and Water Supervisor of District 3. Mark Ihlenfeld of Owatonna filed to represent District 1.

On the state level, Rep. John Petersburg will face off in District 19B against Abdulahi Ali Osman of Owatonna.

In Senate District 23, Sen. Gene Dornink faces two challengers, including another Republican, Lisa Hanson of Hayward and Brandon Lawhead of Austin.

Veteran senator John Jasinski filed to run in the newly-created Senate District 19. He will face off against DFLer Kate Falvey, a teacher from Faribault.

District 27A incumbent Rep. Peggy Bennett will face a challenge from DFLer Mart Hinnenhamp, also of Albert Lea.

Incumbent Patricia Mueller of Austin has filed to run in the newly created District 23B, along with former Austin mayor Thomas Stiehm.
