Peace Officer of the Year happily surprised by honor

Lead Summary

There was a look of pure shock on the face of Corporal Jacob Peterson of the Blooming Prairie Police Department (BPPD) when Chief Greg Skillestad announced that he was being honored as “Peace Officer of the Year” at the Exchange Club of Steele County meeting on Friday, Feb. 26.
“I did not know this was happening,” Peterson admitted right away. “I thought I was just speaking, like last year.”
However, he was a little suspicious when his wife and three children showed up at the meeting.
Peterson has been with the BPPD for 13 years. He is also an Emergency Medical Technician with the ambulance and a volunteer fireman. He is also founder of Stix of Fury with his wife, Alicia.
Skillestad said that Peterson maintains many of the BPPD grants and IT work. He also specializes in fighting internet crimes against children.
Peterson is a local to Blooming Prairie. He said, “It can be tough sometimes, but we have found it worthwhile.”
“I started 13 years ago and have had offers to serve elsewhere, but I chose to stay in Blooming Prairie,” said Peterson. “I like where I’m at and want to keep serving Blooming Prairie.”
