Karen Peterson, Blooming Prairie resident and former secretary of the Blooming Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce, has been named by the group as its new executive director.

She’s been a member since 2018, has served on the board since 2019, and has been interim director since June.

Peterson owns Confections by Karen, which provides home-baked cakes, cookies, and other sweets.

In 2017, she founded a local non-profit known as the Blooming Prairie Backpack Program, which provides food for families in need over the weekend, when school lunches are not available. The packs go home with the students each Thursday.

Peterson graduated with a degree in law enforcement. She has also been a substitute teacher since 2018.
