Westfield wins 2 at home over weekend

The Westfield Razorbacks won their two dual meets 38-29 and 54-6 against Dover-Eyota and Pine Island to finish the weekend 2-0.
“This was another great day of wrestling for our team.  We had seven wrestlers go 2-0 on the day and help guide us to two wins.  I’m really proud of the way our wrestlers competed this week. Things are really starting to click as a team,” said Westfield co-head coach David Lassahn.
The Razorbacks earned the win against Dover-Eyota in a meet that was close up until the final matches.
Westfield jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to three straight victories to start the dual but found themselves with only a two-point cushion at 14-12 when the team forfeited its matches at 126 and 132 pounds.
Despite this, the Razorbacks were able to maximize team points in the team’s final four wins with four pins for 24 points.
Westfield enjoyed even more success against Pine Island, as the team won every match in which it wrestled.
Pine Island’s six points were the result of a forfeit by Westfield in the 132-pound weight class.
The Razorbacks also benefited from four forfeits which helped build Westfield’s lead early in the dual.
Seven wrestlers remained perfect at the meet as 106-pounder Kevin Hodge, 113-pounder Hunter Simonson, 120-pounder Bo Zwiener, 138-pounder Cade Christianson, 145-pounder Keegan Bronson, 182-pounder Tyler Archer and 195-pounder Vincent Hernandez all went 2-0.
Earlier in the week, Westfield hosted a triangular with WEM/JWP and Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Southland (GMLOS) and finished the day 2-0.
The Razorbacks started the day with a 57-15 win over WEM/JWP before beating GMLOS 50-30 to close the day.
“This was a great night of wrestling for our team. We competed well from top to bottom.  It was nice to see nine different wrestlers go 2-0 on the night, and a few others step up as well. We got it rolling right away at 106 and 113, which helped build the momentum for the rest of the dual. It was fun to see some wrestlers step up and really dominate tonight,” said Lassahn.
Going 2-0 on the day were Hodge, Simonson, Zwiener, Keegan Bronson, Sam Skillestad, Archer, Ty Bronson, Hernandez and Sam Pirkl.
Zwiener picked up a significant 10-4 decision win in the process by beating WEM/JWP’s Carson Petry.
According to Lassahn, Petry entered the match against Zwiener ranked No. 7 in the state in the 120-pound weight class.
Up next for Westfield is an away conference dual against NRHEG on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
