Westfield’s Zwiener starts 21-2

Westfield Razorbacks freshman wrestler Bo Zwiener has begun his 2021-2022 season in blistering fashion already amassing a record of 21-2.
Zwiener, Westfield’s go-to guy at 120 pounds, was a state participant last season for Westfield as an individual but did not place in the tournament.
This year, Zwiener said he hopes to make it back to the state tournament with more weapons in his arsenal as a wrestler.“I’ve improved a lot on my feet. I worked on it a lot during camps in the summer and I’ve continued to work on it during the season as well,” said Zwiener.
Zwiener is coming off a flawless performance at the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area Wrestling Tournament where the 120-pounder took home first place in his weight class.
The freshman phenom began his championship run with a 14-0 major decision victory over Kenyon-Wanamingo before putting together three consecutive wins by fall against Madelia-Truman-Martin Luther (MTML), NRHEG and Springfield.
Westfield head coach Dave Lassahn said that despite Zwiener being a freshman on the team, the young wrestler has shown his ability to lead by example on the mat for his squad.
“When I’m out there, I just think about my team and think about how they wouldn’t give up on me, so I’ll never give up on them,” said Zwiener.
With 21 wins to his name this season, Zwiener has been able to feature his skill set and mental fortitude in every match this season.
Zwiener has even shown his ability to win outside of his desired weight class.
The undefeated 120-pounder began the season at 126 pounds before the two-pound allowance moved the qualifying weight to 128 pounds.
Zwiener’s only two losses to date came at 126 pounds early in the season when he lost two decisions 12-8 and 9-2.
Since the losses, Zwiener has continued his tear at 120 pounds and furthered his hopes of making a deep run in the state tournament with a recent 10-4 decision win against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldof-Pemberton’s Carson Petry.
Petry entered the match against Zwiener as The Guillotine’s No. 7-ranked 120-pound wrestler in Class 1A in the state of Minnesota.
It is left to be seen whether Zwiener’s decisive win against No. 7 Petry will enter him into The Guillotine’s coveted top-10 rankings due to come out on Thursday, Jan. 27.
“It was a pretty fun deal. But as I said, I’m always here to improve my best.”
Zwiener and Westfield face Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
