What started as a small non-profit, is growing into a well-known organization, and companies are beginning to notice. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Walser Auto donated $25,000 to Youth 1st.
"Its really significant," said Youth 1st Co-founder and Director, Mark Arjes.
Not only does this grant help with funding, but Arjes added that being on the same list as bigger organizations gives Youth 1st a good amount of credibility.
"They feel our mission is as important as others that have been around a lot longer than us. We're excited to have them as a partner. It will benefit a lot of kids we touch in this program."
The funds will be spread out among many facets of the organization, and Arjes said the key thing is that the grant will be used for good.
"Youth 1st, as an organization, has really stepped up," said Walser Auto General Manager, Bob Ebert. Ebert added that Youth 1st has continually been a help to the community and Walser Auto, without ever expecting anything in return.
Arjes said the partnership with Walser Auto was a natural thing - one that has proven extremely beneficial.
"We invited them to work with us on a couple of events, particularly at Cabellas," said Arjes. "They supported us there with volunteers and provided picnic meals."
Arjes said one of the notable things Youth 1st and Walser Auto's partnership has created is the Real Winning Team Award, which rewards good sportsmanship displayed by players, coaches and parents. In 2014, Youth 1st rewarded over 500 participants and coaches, including 33 teams in 20 communities. Team award presentations include a team plaque, certificates for each player and coach, tickets to various college and professional sporting events and a press release for newspapers and radio stations. So far in 2015, two youth wrestling teams and nine youth hockey teams have received team awards.
Youth 1st's next event will be a family ice fishing event on Sunday, Feb. 8 at Chase Lake in Owatonna. The event is put on by Owatonna Parks & Recreation in partnership with Senior Place, Cabela’s and Youth 1st.  There will be ice Fishing, ice safety tips, prizes and free hot chocolate.  Kids 15 and under can fish without a license, and bait will be provided. The event will run from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
