A regular meeting of the School Board of 
Independent School District #756, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, was held in the High School Media Center on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 
7:15 p.m.
(Open Forum at 7:00 p.m.)
OPEN FORUM – 
Karen Peterson & Michelle Riley provided information on substitute teaching pay.

D. 2024-25 School 
Calendar (Revised)
Motion by Crystal Studer and seconded by Jon Sunde to approve the revised 2024-25 school year calendar. Motion carried. (6 Aye/0 Nay)
E. Maternity Leave Motion by Jon Sunde and seconded by Dean Meshke to approve 
Lauren Berglund’s 
maternity leave beginning Tuesday, September 3, 2024, and ending 
Tuesday, October 8, 2024, for a total of 5 weeks. Motion carried.

F. Substitute Teacher/Para Pay
Motion by Jon Sunde and seconded by Jenny Thurnau to approve the increase in substitute teacher pay & substitute paraprofessional pay for the 2024-25 school year. Substitute teacher pay is increasing from $120 per day and $60 per half day to $135 per day and $67.50 per half day. 
Substitute 
paraprofessional pay will increase from $14.87 per hour to $15.47 per hour, a 4% increase. Motion carried. (6 Aye/0 Nay)
G. Fee Proposals
Motion by Melissa Stoen and seconded by Crystal Studer to approve the increase in sports & fine arts fees for the 2024-25 school year. JH sports increase from $60 to $75, varsity sports increase from $95 to $110, family max increase from $375 to $400, & fine arts fees will increase from $45 to $60. Motion carried.

H. Additional 
Building Project 
Contract Approval 
Motion by Jon Sunde and seconded by Jenny 
Thurnau to approve the DRN Enterprises, Inc. proposal of $156,930.00 to complete the 
necessary work on the sidewalk lift at the 
elementary school. 
Motion carried. (Roll call vote – 6 Aye: Sunde, Stoen, Braaten, Studer, Meshke, Thurnau/0 Nay)

A. Safe Return to Learning Plan
Mr. Staloch gave an update.
B. June Work Session Date Changed
The June work 
session meeting date has changed from Thursday, June 13 at 6:00 a.m. to Wednesday, June 12 at 6:00 a.m.
C. Building Project Financial Report
The district is carrying a positive fund balance, can use those funds for other building project items.
D. Committee Reports 
A committee report was given for the following committees: Buildings and Grounds/Facilities, Education Foundation, Negotiations, & ZED
E. Enrollment Data
Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year per JMC as of May 13, 2024 was 331 at the elementary school (grades K-4) and 520 at the intermediate/high school (grades 5-12) with approximately 13 PSEO students.
F. Dates to Note
May 16 School Board Work Session at 
6:00 a.m.
May 20 School Board Meeting at 7:00 p.m.
May 24 Graduation 
Practice/Last Day for Seniors at 12:15 p.m.
May 27 Memorial Day – No School
May 31 End of 4th 
Quarter – Students dismissed at 12:45 p.m. – Teacher Inservice
June 12 School Board Work Session at 
6:00 a.m.
June 17 School Board Meeting at 7:00 p.m.

VIII. SUPERINTENDENT OR BOARD MEMBER ITEMS
-Graduation will be in the new gym-voted on by the senior class
-Admin team will do a leadership series next year from September-January.

Motion by Jon Sunde and seconded by Dean Meshke to adjourn the meeting at 7:58 p.m.

June 12, 2024 at 6:00 a.m. in the High School Board Room.

Tentatively, the next Regular School Board Meeting will be Monday, June 17, 2024 at
7:15 p.m. in the High School Media Center. (Open Forum begins at 7:00 p.m.).

A complete copy of the official minutes may be found in their entirety in the official minute
book located in the superintendent’s office at the high school; 
however, they will not beavailable until approved by the School Board.
