Blossoms continue perfect start

Blooming Prairie baseball has utilized its speed and aggression to start the season 3-0 and is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Awesome Blossoms played just one game last week, but left Southland with a big 12-4 win that has put the Gopher Conference on notice.

The first inning featured a hot start for the Awesome Blossoms that ignited a flurry of runs to come.

Blooming Prairie scored twice in the first inning and led 2-0 through two innings before exploding for six runs in the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

The Rebels fought back to score two runs in the bottom of the third, but Blooming Prairie took advantage of its momentum to pull away in the middle of the game.

The Awesome Blossoms answered with a run in the top of the fourth before adding two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to lead 12-2 as time began to run out for the Rebels.

Southland scored once in the bottom of the sixth and added another run in the seventh, but couldn’t muster enough offense to truly make a difference.

The Awesome Blossoms only out-hit the Rebels by a 9-8 margin, but the team’s eight stolen bases consistently put runners in scoring position.

Sophomore pitcher Gabe Staloch was solid on the mound throwing six innings and allowing just four runs while striking out three batters.

Senior Brady Kittelson saw his first pitching action of the season coming in to earn the save in the seventh inning and striking out three batters.

The Awesome Blossoms will travel to Medford for a Gopher Conference game against the Tigers on Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
