Blossoms start off spring with a win

Blooming Prairie baseball kicked off the spring season by winning its first home game of the year in a 6-4 showdown with Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Kingsland (GMLOK.)
The Awesome Blossoms only recorded two hits in the game, but five walks and six errors by the Bulldogs allowed the home side to get on base and do damage.
“We ran into a solid pitcher from GMLOK tonight and only mustered up 2 hits. However, we caused some chaos on the bases when we did get runners on and pulled out a win,” said Blooming Prairie Head Coach Matt Kittelson.
The Awesome Blossoms fell behind 2-0 after the top of the third, but quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-2 heading into the fourth frame.
After a relatively clean start to the game, GMLOK began to self-destruct as Blooming Prairie’s speed proved difficult to contain.
The Awesome Blossoms wreaked havoc on the basepaths by stealing bags at most every opportunity.
The fourth inning saw Blooming Prairie cash in on two more runs to lead 5-2 heading into the fifth inning.
GMLOK struck back with a run in the fifth, but Blooming Prairie countered with one more of its own to move the score to 6-3.
The Bulldogs scored once more in the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late as Blooming Prairie went on to win 6-4.
The duo of Brayton and Carsten Ingvalson were the lone Awesome Blossoms to record hits in the game, but five total athletes – Gabe Staloch, Carter Bishop, Kelvin McCarthy, Bo Zwiener and Carsten Ingvalson – managed to cross home plate to score for the home team.
Blooming Prairie will look to improve its record when the team hosts JWP on Thursday, April 3 at 5 p.m.
