For each of the past 50 years - except 2020 - Blooming Prairie has created a button for its renowned Fourth of July celebration.

Now, the Blooming Prairie Chamber of Commerce wants to see who has the largest collection of unique buttons. “Our goal with this is to see who’s got the biggest collection of Fourth of July buttons in the Blooming Prairie area and if they’ve got more than the Chamber of Commerce,” said Karen Peterson, executive director of the Blooming Prairie Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber has a collection of 40 unique buttons, but anyone with a large collection should submit their entry to the Chamber by June 21. Entries can be submitted by emailing info@thebpchamber.com.

The winner of the contest will receive a prize package that will include $50 in Blooming Prairie Chamber Bucks, a four-pack of 2024 Fourth of July buttons, a 50th Old Fashioned Fourth of July t-shirt and a one-year subscription to the Steele County Times.

According to Peterson, the Fourth of July buttons were designed using clipart or similar methods until 2007. Since 2007, the buttons have been designed by Blooming Prairie fourth-graders with the exception of 2017.

This year’s button was designed by Noah Olson who included the Awesome Blossom, American flag and “iconic” Blooming Prairie water tower.

Buttons cost $5 this year and include $1 off at the beer garden on July 3 and 4 as well as $1 off admission to the bounce house and video game trailer. Buttons will be on sale Wednesday, June 5 starting at 5:30 p.m.
