BREAKING NEWS: Beaver Lake closed until further notice
Due to high levels of E. coli detected in yesterday's water test, Beaver Lake is closed until further notice to protect the health of the public and minimize the risk of recreational water illnesses, Steele County Public Health announced Friday.
Beaver Lake will remain closed until test results return to safe levels. Another sample will be collected on Thursday, Aug. 28, to determine whether it is safe to reopen the lake for Labor Day weekend.
The reason for the high E. coli levels has not been identified. Test results may vary due to a variety of factors such as the number of visitors and pets or contamination of the water from wildlife, stormwater runoff, or breaks in sewage pipes.
