BREAKING NEWS: Steele County Attorney Forbes resigns

Steele County Attorney, Forbes, resignation, 2024

Steele County Attorney Julia Forbes said Tuesday that she will leave her post on June 28, just a year after she was appointed.

Forbes submitted her letter of resignation on Friday.

“I have been offered another career opportunity that, at this juncture in my life, I don’t think I can say no to,” she said during a county board work session.

Forbes was appointed to the post on June 14, 2023. She also served as interim county attorney after Dan McIntosh resigned the previous April. He held the position for over 10 years.

Under state law, officials can either hold a special election or appoint a candidate who would serve until the seat is up for election in 2026. Commissioners agreed appointing an interim attorney would be the better option.

“It seemed to work pretty well the last time,” commissioner Greg Krueger said. “It was a smooth transition.”

This is a developing story. Look for more details in the May 1, 2024, edition of the Times.
