BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Motorcycle crash kills Austin man in BP

A 57-year-old man from Austin died in a crash on Highway 218 in Blooming Prairie on Thursday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

The name of the driver is expected to be released on Friday at 8 a.m., the patrol said.

The crash happened around 11:50 a.m. on U.S. Highway 218 at Highway 30 on the north end of Blooming Prairie.

A Saturn L300 and Honda Motorcycle were both (traveling) northbound on Highway 218 when they collided, the patrol reported.

The patrol identified the driver of the vehicle as Mya Gaul, 21, of Montgomery, along with the passengers, a 15-year-old girl from Lansing, Iowa, and 16-year-old from Austin. All in the vehicle escaped without injuries.

First responders tried to save the motorcyclist by doing CPR at the scene, but were unsuccessful. 

The intersection was closed for about two hours while the patrol investigated.

Blooming Prairie fire, police and ambulance as well as the Steele County Sheriff’s Office assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
