Brenda Delhanty, 61, Owatonna

Brenda J. Delhanty (Guderian), age 61, of Owatonna, died Feb. 18, 2025.

Services will be held Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, Owatonna. Friends may greet the family beginning at 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Brenda was born on Oct. 19, 1963, in Princeton. She grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Princeton High School. In 1986, Brenda graduated from St. Cloud State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. She worked for various suburban newspapers before moving to Owatonna and working for the People’s Press. Eventually, Brenda also worked for the Owatonna Hospital and Viracon in their PR department. After her first son was born, Brenda became a stay-at-home mom.

Brenda married Keith Delhanty on Oct. 9, 1999, in Owatonna. They had two sons, Hunter and Brett, and together they enjoyed taking car trips around the U.S. and were fond of visiting water parks and zoos. In March 2022, Brett died in a car accident and their lives were turned upside down. Brenda was never fully able to restart her life after the loss of her son.

Brenda had many interests and hobbies. Besides being an avid reader and writer, she enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved planning menus and trying new recipes. When her nieces graduated from high school, Brenda catered both of their parties. Brenda’s family was the centerpiece of her life, and she reveled in being able to care for them. Her quick, sarcastic wit showed she could hold her own in any conversation. This is the Brenda that will be remembered, loved, and missed.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Keith Delhanty; son Hunter; mother BettyJean Guderian; stepdaughter Jennifer Schlund, three step-grandchildren; sister Lynda (Jeff) Ihlan; father-in-law Burlyn Delhanty; in-laws Dave (Sherrie) Delhanty, Julie (Tom) Thorson, and Craig (Becky) Delhanty; and nieces Jennifer and Emily Ihlan; plus many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brett; father, Clarence Guderian; and mother-in-law Janet Delhanty.
