Cheryl Patterson, 80, Phoenix
After a long courageous battle with cancer, Cheryl Marie Patterson died peacefully with family by her side on Feb. 8, 2025, in Phoenix, Ariz.
Cheryl was born on Sept. 1, 1944, in Austin, the daughter of Neil and Nina Ingvalson of Blooming Prairie. She was baptized & confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, attended school at the Red Oak Grove Country School and Blooming Prairie High School graduating with the Class of 1962. In high school, she enjoyed being in the chorus and playing clarinet in the concert and marching band. Cheryl was also an active member of the Udolpho 4-H Club, Luther League, and church choirs.
Cheryl attended Augsburg College and Minnesota School of Business and was employed by an insurance company.
She lived in St Louis Park, Minn., where she met her future husband Robert (Pat) Patterson. They were married on April 19, 1969, in Presho, S.D., by her brother-in-law Rev. Ronald Beckman; her sister Linda Beckman was her matron-of-honor.
Cheryl and Pat were blessed with three children: Patricia, Nina, and Archie and lived in Coal Creek Canyon, Colo. They later divorced.
Cheryl and her children moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., near her parents and youngest sister, Cara. Cheryl worked at The Nautical Resort and later at the Lake Havasu City Post Office as a mail carrier.
After retirement, she moved to the Phoenix area near her children and grandchildren.
Cheryl was an excellent baker and seamstress, enjoyed gardening, sudoku, and completing difficult jigsaw puzzles. She made countless muffins for her grandchildren, as well as a quilt for each one. She loved spending time with her family. Cheryl had a host of friends in both Lake Havasu City and the Phoenix area. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Cheryl is survived by her three children: Patricia (Brian) Walker, Nina (Patrick) Darby, and Archie Patterson all from Phoenix; her grandchildren Madi Walker, Will Darby, Christopher Walker, Emma Darby and Ethan Walker; siblings: Linda (Ron) Beckman, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Lisa (Mark) Place, Owatonna; Brent (Jenny) Ingvalson, Blooming Prairie; and Cara (Frank) Clarke, Sarasota, Fla.; sister-in-law Diane Klein, Grand Junction, Colo.; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, parents Neil (2002) and Nina (2019), ex-husband Pat (2017), brother Naven (1973) and brother-in-law Mark Wiese (2000).
A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life was held on June 29, 2025, at the Servicemen’s Club, Blooming Prairie. Interment was at the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Austin.
