Darlene Schmidt, 87, Blooming Prairie

Darlene Delores Schmidt, age 87, passed away Nov. 20, 2024, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

Friends may greet the family on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4532 SE 84th Ave., Claremont. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Darlene was born to parents Elmer and Marie (Wilson) Trom in Blooming Prairie. After high school, she attended nursing school in Mankato. She worked for Dr. Roberts in Owatonna, until she got married.

Darlene was married to Darrell Schmidt at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie on March 25, 1956. They made their home on a farm in rural Claremont. She worked as a farm wife until Darrell retired and the two moved to Owatonna.

Music was at the forefront of Darlene’s life, singing and playing guitar all over southern Minnesota. Darlene took great pride in the fact that she played the accordion, organ and guitar.

Darlene was known to be very particular; her and Darrell always had a clean home and manicured lawn. Her three boys remember they always had to wash and wax all the farm equipment to start and finish the season.

Darlene is survived by her three sons: Brian (Robin) Schmidt of Claremont, Jeff (Deb) Schmidt of Ellendale, and Kent Schmidt of Claremont; four grandchildren: Jacob (Emma) Schmidt, Kelly (Drew) Nelson, Tiffany Schmidt, and Elissa (Jacob) Cohen; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell, and all nine siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Claremont; Westfield Lutheran Church, Westfield Township; or the Steele County Historical Society.
