Dennis Drache, 62, Owatonna, obituary

Dennis “Spud” Drache, 62, passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at his home in Owatonna, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Spud was born on Aug. 29, 1963, in Owatonna, to Carl and Marjorie (Dalland) Drache. He attended school in Owatonna and graduated with the Owatonna High School Class of 1982, where he proudly played hockey throughout his high school years.

Following graduation, Spud worked for National Tree Service trimming trees before beginning a long and dedicated career at Cybex (now Life Fitness), where he served as an assembly lead for 37 years. He retired in August 2025.

On July 13, 1985, Dennis was united in marriage to Linda Peters at St. John Church in Owatonna. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, and community.

Spud was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed playing softball on many different teams throughout the years. He cherished time spent with family and friends, often relaxing in the garage while watching golf or NASCAR. He loved the outdoors and could often be found ice fishing, hunting, golfing, or riding around in his side-by-side. More than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his children and granddaughters.

Dennis is lovingly survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda; his sons, David (Mag) Drache of Byron, MN, and Derek (Veronique “Ronnie”) Drache of Owatonna; his beloved granddaughters, Brinley, Kristen, Maliya, Allison, Brooklyn, and Jocelyn; his sister, Cathy (Bruce) Reker of Ellendale, MN; his mother, Marge Drache of Owatonna; and his brother-in-law, Dale Jeno of Owatonna, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his sister, Linda Jeno; his great-nephew, Brody Fort; and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral service is set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. John Church, 1301 Lincoln Ave. S., Owatonna. Friends may greet the family Monday, March 2, 2026, from 3:30–7 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.

All are encouraged to wear their shirt from Spud’s benefit to the visitation in his honor. Those who wish are also invited to bring their side-by-sides to participate in the funeral procession, a fitting tribute to something he loved.

Memorials in honor of Spud may be directed to St. John Church or Allina Hospice.
