Derald Ewald Grunwald, 89, of Owatonna, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.

He was born March 16, 1935, in Owatonna, to Ewald and Blanche (Daniels) Grunwald. He grew up in rural Owatonna and attended school in Owatonna. Upon completion of school, he started working for various companies before working at OMC, later Mustang, as a foreman.

Derald loved to be outdoors and being active. He was on the OMC Bowling Team, summer softball leagues and loved to read. He loved his turkey hunting in South Dakota, bear hunting in northern Minnesota, bow hunting for deer, coyote and fox, goose and duck hunting, fishing for trout in White Water State Park, and fishing in various lakes all around the state, and trapping whenever he could.

He is survived by his children, Debbie (and Toby) Lindberg of Owatonna; Lynette (and Dan) Hankerson of Blackhawk, S.D.; Jesse Grunwald of Owatonna; Gary (and Christie) Grunwald of Waseca; Quintin Grunwald of Owatonna; numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Penny (and Mel) Grunwald.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Grunwald; parents, Ewald and Blanche Grunwald; brothers, Richard Grunwald, Henry Grunwald, and Jamie Grunwald; great-great-granddaughter, Raylynn Deyo.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
