Donald Narveson, 86, Baxter
Donald Owen Narveson was born on April 21, 1939, and passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on the evening of March 7, 2026, at the age of 86. Don was a retired math teacher living in Baxter, Minn.
He was born in Webster, S.D., the son of Clifford and Irene Narveson. He had two brothers Jon (Mary) Narveson from Minneota, Minn., and Ken (Sue) Narveson from Milaca, Minn.
Don was a graduate of St. Cloud State University, and he married Glorya (Mattson) on June 17, 1961. They enjoyed telling family and friends that they made 19 moves together as their careers progressed, as they raised their family, and as they eventually retired to the Brainerd Lakes Area to be near grandchildren (5) and great grandchildren (4 with 2 more on the way).
Outside of his teaching career, Don found joy in many part-time construction projects and the great outdoors. During his teaching years, he loved spending summers with friends from Blooming Prairie, building houses for his own family, also for many co-workers from school, and working on other building projects with friends. He also loved summer fishing trips with all the Narvesons at Lake Kabetogama. Don and Glorya loved to reminisce about spending 40 years of summer vacations up north fishing with the family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Irene, along with his younger brother Jon and sister-in-law Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Glorya Narveson; his sons, Neal (Jodi) and Paul (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Kristy (Ben) Gottschalk, Kimberly Narveson, Kyle (Kayla) Narveson, Corey (Sydney) Narveson, and Dean (Serina) Narveson; and his great grandchildren, Nolan, Emilia, Jack, and Henry. They will fondly remember the warmth of Grandpa Don’s laughter, his love of storytelling, and the simple wisdom he passed on to each of them.
A family internment ceremony will be held later at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca, arrangements under the direction of the Minnesota Cremation Society of Minnesota. The family also wishes to express its deepest appreciation for the care received by the staff at the Cuyuna Region Medical Center in Crosby, Minn., during Don’s final days. Your compassionate efforts in caring for Don will never be forgotten!
