Dorothy Latzig, 92, formerly of Winsted
Dorothy Margaret (Neumann) Latzig advanced to the afterlife on Nov. 8, 2024, in the comfort of her daughter’s home in Hartland, Wis. She was 92 years old.
Dorothy was born July 12, 1932, to Joseph and Amelia (Kallenbach) Neumann at their farm home located in New Germany Township. The family later moved to a new farm located in Winsted, Minn., where Dorothy was tasked with milking cows during her childhood. Dorothy resided in Winsted for 91 years and spent the last 15 months of her life with her daughter Cindy in Hartland.
During her formative years, Dorothy was educated at Holy Trinity Catholic Schools in Winsted. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted throughout her lifetime.
Dorothy was joined in wedlock to Earland Henry Latzig on Feb. 18, 1950. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Dorothy enjoyed being surrounded by nine loving grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with an additional four great-grandchildren adopted into the growing family. She was awaiting a new great-grandchild that did not arrive prior to her passing.
During the early years of marriage, Dorothy concentrated on family life. She chose occasional employment milking cows for her parents or working at Green Giant canning factory in Winsted. When the children were old enough, she began waitressing at the Blue Note in Winsted, which lasted nearly a decade. She then worked at Sterner Lighting in Winsted, first as a switchboard operator and then in accounts payable for a total of 21 years, retiring in 1997. Dorothy volunteered at St. Mary’s Nursing Home during her retirement.
Dorothy’s unrelenting smile was contagious. It was noted as far back as school report cards that Dorothy enjoyed interacting with people. Residents of Winsted will attest to the fact that Dorothy’s favorite pastime was walking. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering and solving word search puzzles. During her marriage, she and Earl spent their free time camping, fishing, and polka dancing. She will be profoundly missed as the loving and peaceful matriarch of her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and sister, brothers Marvin Neumann and Wilbert Neumann, sisters Marcella (Neumann) Castro-Laughlin and Shirley (Neumann) Quast. Dorothy is now reunited with her husband Earl Latzig who preceded her in death in 2012, and son Larry Lyle Latzig who preceded her in death in 1973 at the age of 23.
Dorothy is survived by her son Kevin (Charlene) Latzig, Lester Prairie; daughter Cynthia (Frank) McKenna, Hartland, Wis., and daughter Cheryl (Glen) Meger of Owatonna. In addition to nine grandchildren and 21 (+1) great-grandchildren, Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law Marietta Neumann, and numerous nieces and nephews.
