Owatonna divers Mya Dutton and Kate Karsten both placed in the top-four athletes in the girls’ one-meter diving finals at the Section 1AA diving trials last week to secure their spots at the state meet.

Karsten took third place with 350.20 points to secure her first trip to state as a sophomore with Dutton following close behind with 297.30 points in fourth.

Dutton’s fourth-place finish earned the senior her third trip to the state meet after qualifying as a freshman and junior.

The senior was a favorite to qualify for the big meet as a sophomore as well, but was disqualified due to losing her balance on the diving board and not making a genuine attempt to save the dive attempt.

Dutton’s bet finishes at the state meet include taking 28th in 2021 and 30th in 2023.

Joining her will be Karsten, who will be making her first-ever appearance at state.

The sophomore was excellent in sections and will hope to gain valuable experience competing alongside the state’s best.

Both divers will compete next at the Class AA state meet held at the University of Minnesota’s Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
