Elizabeth “Betty” Manderfeld, 87, Faribault
Elizabeth Jane (Ness) Manderfeld, age 87, of Faribault, passed away due to an extended illness on Friday, June 28, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Friends may greet the family from 5–7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Medford Funeral Home, 310 E. Central Ave., Medford. A Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at Medford Funeral Home, with a procession to the church at 10:45 a.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 205 2nd Ave. NW, Medford. Interment will follow services at Resurrection Cemetery.
Betty was born June 16, 1937, at her grandparent’s home in Steele County, to Bernard and Ann Ness. Betty lived in Owatonna until age five, when her family purchased a farm close to her grandparents in Morristown. She attended country school and graduated from Morristown High School with the class of 1955. After graduation, she worked in the office at the Faribault Turkey Plant.
On June 28, 1958, she married William (Bill) Manderfeld at Christ the King Church of Medford, with Rev. Harold Mountain officiating. Betty was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Bill and Betty lived in Rice County on a dairy farm close to Bill’s parent’s farm. Betty decided to work full time on the farm while raising five children. They raised registered milking shorthorn cows, which her children and grandchildren competed with in 4-H, FFA, and National shows. She was proudly involved and actively working with dairy cattle from childhood to the age of 81.
Betty also enjoyed raising a variety of poultry, flower and vegetable gardening, sewing clothes, and quilting. She was involved with the Eckland Garden Club and an active 4-H leader for several years. Bill and Betty went to Sandstone numerous times to listen to live bands playing polkas, waltzes and country music. She especially enjoyed family celebrations and holidays. Her family always looked forward to her famous homemade strawberry salad. Betty requested and enjoyed her fresh strawberries and farm milk to the very end.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Ann; her husband Bill; grandson Andrew David Hanson; and granddaughter Chloe Ann Sigwart.
She is survived by her children: Brenda Manderfeld-Hanson of Morristown, Bertha (John) Sigwart of Missouri, Bernadette (Tom) St. Amant of White Bear Lake, Byron (Susan) Manderfeld of Faribault, and Bernard (Anne) Manderfeld of Faribault; grandchildren Brandon (Audery) Hanson, Beth Ann (Oliver Stoltman) Hanson, Josephine and Stephanie Sigwart, Scott (Anna) St. Amant, Adam (Hunter) Manderfeld, Sarah (Dan) Proctor, Amelia (Michael Larson) and Anthony Manderfeld; and one sister Marjorie Ness.
