Eugene “Gene” Hawkins, 92, Kasson

F. Eugene “Gene” Hawkins, 92, of Kasson passed away on Nov. 18 at Mayo Clinic Hospital- Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus.
Gene was born on Nov. 28, 1925 in Oconee, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46. On Aug. 26, 1949, he married Zeta Zubradt in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Gene was employed for 30 years at IBM-Rochester as a parts specialist.

He was an active member of the Church of the Holy Family in Kasson as well as the IBM Quarter Century and Retirees Clubs. Gene’s special interests included bowling, playing cards, attending family reunions, studying family genealogy and taking bus tours.
Gene is survived by his wife, Zeta; sons Glenn (Sabrina) of Longmont, Colo.; David of Kasson and Richard (Laura) of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and two nephews, Kermit Lee Hawkins and Kevin Hawkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Agnes (Beckfield) Hawkins; and brother Kermit Hawkins.

A Mass of the Christian Burial for Gene was held on Monday, Nov. 26 at the Church of the Holy Family in Kasson with Father John Lasuba officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Storm Lake, Iowa at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to them for distribution later according to their wishes.
