Ezra Erickson, 98, Owatonna, obituary

Ezra D. Erickson, 98, of Owatonna, died Nov. 24, 2025, at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna, surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 S. Elm Ave., Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, from 4–6 p.m. at Brick–Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, and one hour before the funeral mass on Tuesday at the church.

Ezra was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Otisco, Minn., the son of Edward and Gladys (Johnson) Erickson. Ezra attended country school in Bixby Township until he went to work on the family farm.

He met the love of his life, Louise Meyer, at the Monterey Ballroom, and the couple was married on July 23, 1953, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in West Concord. The couple made their home on a farm south of Claremont and raised six children. Farming was Ezra’s lifelong vocation; he cared for a dairy herd, raised hogs, and tended the land with crops, building a life rooted in hard work and devotion to agriculture. Ezra also worked for 27 years at the Owatonna Canning Company, retiring in 1994. In retirement, Ezra worked part-time for Alexander Lumber.

Ezra was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Claremont, where he served faithfully as a parish council trustee. After moving to Owatonna, he became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and joined the Kiwanis Club. Ezra’s many interests included woodworking, supporting 4-H, gardening, and playing solitaire. He gave generously of his time by delivering Meals on Wheels, assisting with the Steele County Food Shelf, volunteering at the Heritage Hall Museum, and took pride in helping with the walkway of names at the Village of Yesteryear. He treasured the companionship of his beloved dogs and carried a lifelong curiosity about the lives and well-being of those around him. Above all, Ezra cherished his family. He will be remembered for his kindness and his willingness to lend a hand whenever someone had a project.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Louise; daughters Karen (Greg) Federly, Anne (Oscar) Pendleton, and Kathy (Mike) Grenier; more than 35 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Douglas and infant son Stephen Paul; his daughters, Rene’ and Christine; and two great-great-grandsons. For more info or to leave a condolence message, go to www.megercares.com.
