Fire consumes land around Oak Glen Lake
A controlled burn near the Blooming Prairie Country Club quickly became uncontrolled as a strong south wind kicked up late Thursday morning.
The BP Fire Department was called at 11:05 a.m. to an address just north of the golf course for a report of about a ½-acre of land burning near Oak Glen Lake.
A woman at the scene said the burn was going as planned until the flames “jumped about 30 feet” and ignited a brush pile.
The majority of the fire was on the south and southwest side of the lake; there were no nearby structures.
The BPFD requested additional manpower about 15 minutes after arriving; crews from Ellendale Fire Department responded with their grass fire rigs.
Firefighters continued to knock down some hot spots, but the scene was mostly controlled by 12:30.
No injuries were reported, and golfers continued their rounds throughout.
