Gary Wanous, 75, Owatonna

Gary John Wanous, 75, passed away on Feb. 6, 2025, at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna.

Gary was born Dec. 26, 1949, in Steele County to Albert and Gladys (Johnson) Wanous. He was raised on the family farm in Somerset Township. He attended Owatonna High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1967. After high school, Gary studied at both Austin Junior College and the Israel Institute of Technology in Israel. In 1969, he joined the U.S. Army.

Gary’s hobbies included the thrill of racing his dirt cars at local tracks, traveling, outdoor adventures, and family gatherings.

Gary was self-employed as a contractor, specializing in sheetrock and tile setting.

Gary is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, along with great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Eileen Schultz, JoAnne Reichert, Carol Gillan, and brother Brian Wanous.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb.17, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna.
