Ginskey & Meier up for “Triple A” Award

Owatonna seniors Jacob Ginskey and Laken Meier were chosen as Owatonna High School’s “Triple A” Award nominees for the 2023-24 school year, elevating them to the regional level of the competition.

According to a press release from Owatonna High School, “the ‘Triple A’ Award acknowledges a male and female high school senior with a 3.0 or higher GPA who participates in League-sponsored athletic programs and fine arts activities such as theater, speech and music.”

Ginskey was nominated for his involvement with the football, basketball, and track and field teams in athletics, while also taking part in band and choir.

The standout athlete has been an all-state selection in both football and track and field, while also showing his fine arts skills by participating in band for four years and choir for two.

Meier also brings a polished résumé to the “Triple A” Award selection process.

The senior is coming off her final girls’ swim and dive season for Owatonna, in which she has participated as a varsity athlete for the past six years and won all-conference honors twice.

In athletics, Meier has also shown her longevity as a part of Owatonna’s track and field team.

She has competed on varsity for the Huskies for the past five seasons, earning all-conference honors twice and participating in the state tournament last year.

In fine arts, Meier has been a part of the choir for four years and has been a section leader for one year.

According to the press release, Ginskey and Meier will now progress to the regional level before potentially making it to the final round at the state level.

Winners of the “Triple A” Award will be announced in the spring, with an official selection date still pending.
