Logan Halverson and Landen Sturges gave Scout Troop 253 double the reason to celebrate.
Earlier this month, the pair was formally awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America program.
Halverson and Sturges received their Eagle Scout medals and official proclamations from Owatonna Mayor Matt Jessop on Nov. 9 at the Steele County History Center. He commended their dedication, leadership and service to the community.
Halverson, the son of Josh and Mara Halverson, completed his Eagle project by revitalizing the east side of the Knights of Columbus Hall. His work included re-landscaping the area and constructing a new retaining wall, enhancing both the functionality and appearance of the property.
Sturges, the son of Dan and Julie Sturges, created an outdoor learning environment at Lincoln Elementary School in Owatonna. His project provides students and educators with a dynamic space to engage with nature and learning – outside the traditional classroom setting.
Only about 6% of all scouts nationwide earn the rank of Eagle Scout. It requires years of commitment, leadership and the successful completion of a significant service project that benefits the community.
Both young men exemplify the values of Scouting – leadership, service and perseverance – and their achievements stand as an inspiration to their peers and the broader community, who surrounded them during their recognition celebration.
The troop is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council #945. Their Scoutmaster is Josh Halverson.
