Harvey N. Fischer, Jr., 61, Owatonna, obituary

Harvey Norman Fischer, Jr. of Owatonna, passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2024.

Harvey was born on Aug. 31, 1962, in Mason City to Harvey Fischer Sr. and Janice (Johnson) Fischer. He attended Mason City schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, entering bootcamp at the age of 17.

After serving, he met and married his first wife, Melinda. They set up their home in Mason City with son, Joshua, and welcomed Addison to the family in 1987.

Harvey graduated from North Iowa Area Community College with an associate’s degree in 1995 and later obtained his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1997. Shortly after, Harvey and Melinda divorced.

Harvey then met Barb Wedeking, with whom he would spend the rest of his life. Harvey and Barb moved to Minnesota in 1999, living first in Northfield and then Faribault, before buying a home and settling in Owatonna.

Harvey’s work was focused in the tiling and flooring industry and he worked at several local southern Minnesota companies, his most recent job with Tony’s Flooring in Owatonna. Outside of work, Harvey and Barb enjoyed relaxing at home, cooking meals together and spoiling their dog, Belle. Harvey was happiest when he was in nature, whether it was hunting, fishing or just enjoying time on the lake.

Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Fischer Sr.; his mother, Janice Fischer; and his son, Addison Fischer.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Barb Wedeking; stepson, Joshua Fischer; and his aunt, Joan Stowell, from Austin, MN.

No services are planned at this time.
