Hazel Rysavy, 96, Austin
Hazel Rysavy, 96, of Austin, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the Blooming Prairie Care Center.
Ruby “Hazel” Blalock was born March 15, 1928, in Decatur, Ga., to Virgil and Lula (Sheppard) Blalock. She graduated from Decatur Girls High School. After High School, she worked as a secretary for the 4th Service Command of the U.S. Army.
Hazel was united in marriage to Robert Rysavy on April 27, 1946 in Atlanta, Ga. They moved to Austin where she worked for 1st National Bank for nine years. She then became a stay-at-home mom to their children, Dorothy and Larry.
Hazel enjoyed fishing, vacations with family, and later in life, wintering in Texas and Arizona.
Hazel was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1996; dear friend, Harold Halverson; son-in-law, Marshall Miller; siblings, Catherine (George) Conkle, Leona Brown, James (Ruth) Blalock, William (Hettie Gray) Perry, Roy (Leon) Blalock, Henry (Becky) Alton, Howard (Toni) Blalock, and John Blalock.
Hazel is survived by her daughter: Dorothy Miller, Grand Marais; son: Larry Rysavy (Connie Kroells), Spooner, Wis.; grandchildren: Christopher Miller (Tanya Wheeler), Rochester, Cory Miller, Britt, Iowa, Eric (Jennifer) Rysavy, Rochester, and Gary (Emmali) Rysavy, Bern, Switzerland; great grandchildren: Bristol Miller, Keegan Miller, Caleb Rysavy, and Kaley Rysavy; sister-in-law: Sandra Blalock, Griffin, Ga.; brother-in-law: Bobby Brown, Johns Creek, Ga; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Andrew Beerman officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
