Helen M. Ferry, 96, Mantorville

Helen M. Ferry, 96, of Mantorville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
Helen was born in Stanfordville, New York on Oct. 28, 1922 to Edward and Ethel (Euler) Robinson.  In 1941, she graduated from Millbrook Memorial High School and worked for the Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company as a switchboard operator.  For the WWII war effort, Helen knitted wool socks for the soldiers and plane spotted for enemy planes in the Hudson River area.
She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Ferry, on Oct. 23, 1945.  They lived in Stanfordville, NY and started their family of three children.  In 1956, they moved to Mantorville, Minnesota. She was an avid bird watcher, loved to knit sweaters and sew clothing for her family.  Later, when her children were grown, she started quilting with the church ladies. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Kasson  and saw to it that her children participated as well. They did Meals on Wheels and visited the elderly at nursing homes and attended Youth Fellowship.  Helen was a believer in community. She was part of the start of the Mantorville Restoration Association. She loved restoring Mantorville’s historic buildings to their former glory.  For a time, she had a little shop, The Chimney Cupboard, in town which sold homemade items and souvenirs of Mantorville.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents and two sisters, Florence and Catherine.  
She is survived by her three children, Thomas, John (Gervaise), and Ann (Daniel) Driver; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Tea will be held , Friday, May 3,  at 1:30 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 101 6th Ave NW, Kasson. A light luncheon will be served throughout and a short program will be at 2 p.m. lead by Pastor Carl Grosse.  A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Mantorville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to The First Presbyterian Church in Kasson or to the Mantorville Restoration Association.
