HOT PURSUIT
For years, our newspaper has always had a booth at the Steele County Free Fair. It provides us with great exposure and connects with one of our most important commodities— our readers.
With a small staff and the weekly grind of putting out a newspaper, it’s difficult to add more shows to our plate. But we’re going to give a crack this week.
On Friday through Sunday, we will be at the KOWZ-KRUE Home and Rec Show at the Four Seasons Centre. My good friend, Brad Kubat, conned me into becoming a part of their long-time show. It will be our first time having a display at the show.
I’m sure Brad and the radio crew will have some fun activities for visitors at the show. Last year it was Dunk-the-DJ. Lots of people got some great chuckles when Brad and many others went into the drink.
We will be offering a discounted subscription special good only at the show. New subscribers can get a one-year subscription for $39. If you’re already getting the paper, we have a March Mania special running for $69 for 18 months.
And that brings me to another point. Remember the Hy-Vee shopping spree we offered last fall? It’s still on the table. Become our 3,000th subscriber and you will win a $300 shopping trip at Hy-Vee. We’ve been hovering around the 3,000 mark for a few months, but have never quite cracked it yet. Hitting that goal at this weekend’s Home and Rec show would be pretty awesome. I know Randy over at Hy-Vee is dying to get someone into his store for the shopping spree.
We’ve already picked up dozens of new readers over the past few weeks since we sent out a sample copy to everyone in Steele County in early March. The excitement over local news continues to build.

I’ve always said the feedback we get from readers is what fuels my passion to continue offering the area one of the best newspapers in the state. And we have the awards to back that up. Just a few months ago we hit 19 state awards, the most we’ve ever obtained in a single contest.
