Owatonna boys and girls track and field showed no signs of slowing down last week after the two teams combined for three wins and one third-place finish across three total meets last week.

The girls team was able to go 2-0 with wins at home and at the Warrior Relays at Two Rivers High School while the boys won their home debut and took third in Stillwater.

Last week’s busy schedule started with the Huskies hosting their first home meet of the season.

Faribault and Albert Lea came to town but found little success while being blown out by the Huskies’ boys and girls teams.

Owatonna’s girls team was the highest scoring squad on the day, posting 117 team points and beating Faribault by 60.

Leading the Huskies to a quick start was senior sprinter Halle Theis, who won the 100- and 200-meter dash events with times of 12.93 and 27.42 seconds.

Sandwiched between Theis’s wins was a winning performance from Maya Badger, who posted a 16.96-second time in the 300-meter hurdles.

Owatonna’s relay teams were on fire as well with the girls 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 teams sweeping all four events.

The Huskies got back on the board to close out the track events with a win when distance runner Clara Sennott took the 3,200-meter race title in 13:06.18.

The girls’ field athletes were on fire as well with five event wins.

Posting winning scores were Amanda Clubb (103 feet – discus), Theis (16 feet, seven inches – long jump), Dylann Norrid (nine feet – pole vault), Kyleah Miller (39 feet, 4.5 inches – shot put) and Jozie Johnson (35 feet, two inches – triple jump.)

On the boys side, Owatonna was able to score 112 team points and beat Faribault by 82 points for the win.

The boys’ relay teams were stellar as well with the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 teams all winning their heats.

In individual track events, Owatonna won four races thanks to some fast efforts from Nolan Ginskey (11.05 – 100-meter dash), Seth Johnson (41.10 – 300-meter hurdles), Jack Sorenson (4:32.97 – 1,600-meter race), and Mason Myrom (11:25.36 – 3,200-meter race.)

Owatonna also won five of six field events to nearly complete a full sweep.

Winning for the Huskies were: Ginskey (20 feet, five inches – long jump, 41 feet, 11 inches – triple jump), Terell Miller (six feet, two inches – high jump), Lucas Smith (142 feet – discus) and Zachary Dahnert (49 feet, 5.5 inches – shot put.)

Later in the week, Owatonna’s girls team went on to win the Warrior Relays at Two Rivers High School in Mendota Heights.

The Huskies edged out the hosts 64-63 for the win behind a pair of winning efforts and multiple podium placers.

Kyleah Miller (38 feet, six inches – shot put) and Norrid (nine feet – pole vault) were the Huskies’ two champions.

The boys team competed on Saturday in Stillwater where the team was able to take third place.

Owatonna’s boys squad saw the 4x200 and sprint-medley relay teams take first place on the track while Ginskey also captured the title in the triple jump event.

The boys’ team will compete next at Lakeville South High School on Thursday, April 24 at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the girls will wait to run alongside the boys at the Hamline Elite Meet on Friday, April 25.

A start time for the Hamline Elite Meet was not available at the time of press.
