Huskies repeat as Big Nine champions

Owatonna gymnastics made quick work of the competition in Rochester last weekend for the Big Nine Conference Championship by winning with a score of 147.150.

The Huskies’ total was enough to win by a comfortable 4.025 team points and set a new season-best point total for the team.

Senior all-around athlete Halle Theis led the way for the Huskies with 36.150 points – good for third place out of all gymnasts.

The Huskies excelled everywhere, but their best event of the day was the floor with 37.400 points.

Owatonna’s Ava Maves was the meet’s leading scorer with a stellar 9.500-point routine.

The Huskies’ next best event was the beam with 37.3 points.

Freshman Delia Neumann set the tone with a 9.500-point routine to take first out of all gymnasts.

Next up was the vault, where the team put up 37.175 points.

Owatonna’s leader in the event was Johanna Spielman with a dazzling 9.525-point routine.

Rounding out the team’s scoring was the bars where the Huskies closed out the show with 35.275 points.

Neumann was on fire once again and scored first out of all gymnasts with a 9.425-point routine.

Owatonna will compete next at the Section 1AA Meet at Farmington High School on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m.
